Aggazzotti Nocino is a traditional walnut liqueur from the Aggazzotti family of Modena, in Italy's Emilia-Romagna region, where nocino has been made in farmhouse kitchens for centuries. By custom the green walnuts are picked by hand on the night of San Giovanni, June 24, while still soft, then steeped in spirit with cinnamon, clove and other spices and aged until the liqueur turns a deep, dark brown. Bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof) in a 750ml bottle. The taste is rich and nutty with dark chocolate, coffee, cinnamon, clove and vanilla, balanced sweetness and a velvety, warming finish. It is a classic Italian digestivo, best sipped neat after dinner or over a single cube, and bartenders love it in place of sweet vermouth in a Manhattan or alongside bourbon in an Old Fashioned.
